Thank you for going on the journeys with our characters, for falling in love alongside them, for crying with them, for helping them live outside of the writer’s mind. Thank you, also, for trusting us with your hard-earned money, for trusting that the trip will be worth it, so that we can afford to write more stories for you. Thank you, readers! You make our hearts sing and make our work worthwhile.
2) Beta-readers: These special first readers get extra buckets of gratitude for making sure we don’t embarrass ourselves too badly, for telling us the ugly truths about our babies (books) and forcing us to reevaluate them with new eyes. Thank you for taking precious time away from your family, friends, work, job, and life to read our books (sometimes more than once) with a critical eye and then writing out (sometimes long) emails about how they can be better. Thank you for fighting for our books. You’re our heroes.
3) Editors: Thank you for trying to fix every last wrong thing in our books and for making our books your own babies, too. Thank you for forcing us into the harder edits that we might otherwise resist. We’d be a mess without you!
4) Reviewers: Thank you for loving books so much you tell the world about them! Thank you for doing your best to spread the word about the books you love and for being honest about the books you don’t. “I think I liked this sequel more than Training Season, and that is saying something considering how much I loved that book! This sequel is just…man. Everything I could have wanted and more. It’s sexy and sweet and angsty. Matty and Rob make mistakes. (No cheating, don’t worry!) They love each other, but they aren’t perfect, and I really enjoy that this book explores challenges many couples face with communication and money woes. But it’s done with unique flair, and in the end their love sees them through with flying colours. (This is a romance novel, after all — HEAs are the name of the game.) It wasn’t always easy to see Rob and Matty hurting, but it was so worth it. I was grinning like an idiot when I finished — the outcome felt so very earned. I’m admittedly biased since I edited this book, but I really did love it to bits.”

“This was incredible. It ran the gamut from the hottest, blush inducing, scenes that I’ve read in a long while to the most heart wrenching prose that had me running out of tissues halfway through. I’m just glad that I didn’t read this in a public place because both these scenarios would be totally embarrassing. I was completely enamored with Christopher and could not stop reading until I saw him have his happily ever after. And, I’m fervently wishing for a sequel that has the same in store for Gareth.”

“I loved this book, absolutely LOVED IT. I knew from the beginning that Nicky was going to make me love him and he did. This book was absolutely beautiful to read. There were tears and humor. And you could feel, from beginning to end, just how much the two MCs loved each other. Hats off to Ms. Blake and Ms. Vaughn because this book is perfect. Books about ex lovers can be painful to read because a lot of authors tend to insert an endless amount of flashbacks. Not this one. There are shared memories of course, but it wasn’t overwhelming and I never felt like it interrupted the flow of the book. I HIGHLY recommend.”

Once upon a time, in what now feels like a kingdom far, far away, Leta Blake had never published a book. Her pal, Keira Andrews, said, “Let’s do a series of re-imagined fairy tales together and sell them to a publisher!” And Leta said, “Oh, wow! That sounds super fun!”
Thus, Leta eagerly set about scribbling her very first book. (Well, her very first book that didn’t turn into a four book series that still isn’t done yet.) She found inspiration for her leading man in George MacDonald’s fairytale The Light Princess. The idea of a beautiful prince lacking in physical and emotional gravity seemed too fun an opportunity to pass up.
Leta named her little book Levity and even managed to keep it under the word count the publisher required for a novella. Keira added her bits, and they were both quite pleased with the outcome. The publisher seemed to like it, too. Except they didn’t like the title. They said Levity wasn’t sexy enough, readers wouldn’t like it, no one would buy it, etc. So with tears in her eyes, Leta agreed to call the tale Earthly Desires.
Then came the publisher’s cover. It was dark and brooding, with headless, muscled torsos, and an ominous vibe. The publisher said, “Too bad, so sad!” when Leta and Keira argued, “This cover is really inappropriate for the book. It sets completely wrong expectations about what will be inside.” It can’t be stressed enough that Leta cried real tears over that cover. Hot, angry, sad tears.
(Leta’s first experience with dealing with a publishing house wasn’t very awesome. *ahem* This might have something to do with why she self-publishes now.)
Cue the passing of three years and the publisher finally gave Leta and Keira their rights back to this little story! (And the other stories in this series, too! The second tale, Rise, based on Jack & the Beanstalk, has been out since last spring. The third tale, Flight, based on The Twelve Dancing Princesses, will be re-released in October!) And it is with great joy that we announce the new (old) title and brilliant new cover for this sexy, silly, whimsical fairy tale!
