Review: Vespertine by Leta Blake and Indra Vaughn

September 11, 2015 by Leta

“This book blew me away. Blew. Me. Away. It was surprising in the best way. I don’t know why I was surprised, really…I’m a big fan of Leta Blake’s books; and Indra Vaughn, though I hadn’t read her work previously, definitely has some popular titles, but I had no idea this one would be this good. The blurb intrigued me; I just didn’t know how the authors were going to pull it off. I mean, he’s a priest, you guys. Ha! But, pull it off they did. Vespertine is beautiful, emotional, raw at times, funny at times, definitely sexy, and just a gorgeous, gorgeous love story.”

“Wow, I’m kinda lost for words. I loved this book and can’t recommend it highly enough.” Review of Smoky Mountain Dreams #gay #amreading

September 3, 2015 by Leta

“Wow, I’m kinda lost for words, I loved this book and can’t recommend it highly enough. Set amongst the mountains of Gatlinburg, Christopher lives alone in his Grandmother’s house having been shunned by his religious mother and stepfather. He settled there after failing to make it big in Nashville and now works as a singer on stage at a theme park. Jesse has been a long time fan of Christopher’s, admiring him from afar. The two meet when Christopher commissions him to make a locket for his grandmother. Jesse grew up in that town and is surprised to discover that Christopher doesn’t know about his baggage. He not only has two young children but also has a wife who is brain dead and being kept alive by machines – a decision he wants overturned. The story follows these men as they embark on a relationship and find themselves struggling to cope with the present and the past and not knowing how a future together would be possible. The chemistry between them is palpable and their story’s heart breaking. I was hooked from the first page and will certainly be checking out other works by this author.”

via Goodreads | Cheryl Scotland, The United Kingdom’s review of Smoky Mountain Dreams.

Sometimes holding on means letting go Christopher Ryder and Jesse Birch are two men hanging on to the past. While Christopher has let go of his failure as a country singer in Nashville, he's still trying to please his narrow-minded, non-accepting family. His beloved Gran loves him the way he is, but Christopher feels painfully invisible to everyone else. He’s happy enough performing at the Smoky Mountain Dreams theme park in Tennessee, but even when Christopher is center stage he aches for someone to see the real him. There's more than meets the eye when it comes to bisexual Jesse. He's raising two kids and fighting with family after a tragic accident took his children’s mother. There's no room in his life for dating, his kids are his priority, and he doesn't want more than an occasional hook-up. He sure as hell doesn't want to fall hard for his favorite local singer, but when Christopher walks into his jewelry studio, Jesse hears a new song in his heart.

Diverse Voices Series: Showcasing Diversity Within the LGBTQ Community

August 23, 2015 by Leta

I’m over at Writer Unboxed today talking about the importance of LGBTQ representation in books.

**

Why is diversity important to Leta? In her words:

In the wake of the United States’ Supreme Court’s decision on Marriage Equality, it’s obvious that true change is on its way for LGBTQ rights. However, it would be premature to think that enough change has been accomplished and it’s a smooth road from here. We still have a long way to go before true emotional equality is achieved. Recently a child came out to his 6th grade teacher and she related to me that despite the child having accepting parents and peers, there were still layers of rejection: “It’s fine. Just don’t talk to me about the dudes you like.” “It’s okay, but don’t tell your grandma.” Breaking down these more subtle barriers and giving kids a future to look forward to are key goals if we truly want to impact the quality of the future lives of LGBTQ kids and adults.

Learn more about Leta and her works on her website, and by following her on Facebook and Twitter.

“Sweet, sizzling hot and oh-so-perfectly angsty!” Bayou Book Junkie: Review: Smoky Mountain Dreams by Leta Blake #gay #1click

August 3, 2015 by Leta

“It was such a fantastic, emotional roller-coaster read! It was sweet, sizzling hot and oh-so-perfectly angsty! I cried, I laughed, I drooled over the fabulous sex scenes especially the one in Jesse’s workshop office, damn I’m never going to look at pearls the same way again!, but above all, I fell in love with Jesse and Christopher, with Brigid and Will, with Jackie and Joe and their children, with Christopher’s gran and even with Gareth! They were all such well-rounded, tridimensional characters, with good and bad things and everything in between, making them so much realistic to me.”

Will a priest & a rock star obey love’s call? Vespertine by Leta Blake & Indra Vaughn. Coming Sept 2015.

July 23, 2015 by Leta

CJj3lyoXAAAvl8g

Can a priest and a rockstar obey love’s call?

Seventeen years ago, Jasper Hendricks and Nicholas Blumfeld’s childhood friendship turned into a secret, blissful love affair. They spent several idyllic months together until Jasper’s calling to the Catholic priesthood became impossible to ignore. Left floundering, Nicky followed his own trajectory into rock stardom, but he never stopped looking back.

Today, Jasper pushes boundaries as an out, gay priest, working hard to help vulnerable LGBTQ youth. He’s determined to bring change to the church and the world. Respected, admired, and settled in his skin, Jasper has long ignored his loneliness.

As Nico Blue, guitarist and songwriter for the band Vespertine, Nicky owns the hearts of millions. He and his bandmates have toured the world, lighting their fans on fire with their music. Numbed by drugs and fueled by simmering anger, Nicky feels completely alone. When Vespertine is forced to get sober, Nicky returns home to where it all started.

Jasper and Nicky’s careers have ruled their lives since they parted as teens. When they come face to face again, they must choose between the past’s lingering ghosts or the promise of a new future.

Guest Post and #Giveaway Training Complex by Leta Blake — Joyfully Jay

July 14, 2015 by Leta

I’m over at Joyfully Jay’s with one of my most personal blog posts and three copies of Training Complex. Comment at Jay’s for a chance to win!

“*Trigger Warning for discussion of Mental Illness, Depression, Suicidal Ideation, and symptoms of such*

I can’t say it was unexpected when my husband said the words, “I want a divorce,” one summer day back in my late twenties. I was suffering from a severe, crippling, seemingly-endless depression that correlated with my Saturn Return.

I don’t talk much about my three-year long bout with depression anymore, not because I am ashamed, but because I’m a big believer in the power of stories and so Depression is no longer a story I want to tell about myself.

Speaking of stories, SPOILER ALERT FOR THIS ONE I’M TELLING YOU NOW, we did not get divorced.”

“Well developed characters, strong emotions, and real-life decision making all combine to make this a book you won’t want to miss.” Review of Smoky Mountain Dreams #gay #amreading

July 3, 2015 by Leta

“A beautiful story! Well developed characters, strong emotions, and real-life decision making all combine to make this a book you won’t want to miss. The background comes alive with vivid descriptions. The people and problems are true to life…you can see each character with amazing clarity, and the emotions are drawn out of every one! Do yourself a favor, when you buy this book and you really want to! give yourself the gift of the time to enjoy it with as few interruptions as possible. The story is gonna blow your socks off, and you’re not going to want to step out of the Smoky Mountains to deal with real life for a few hours. I’d write more, but I read this with a lot going on around me so I am going to go back and read it again…”

Review: Training Complex by Leta Blake

June 4, 2015 by Leta

As an author, I love every review of any of my books. I always feel really lucky and touched that someone took the time to read and to send their reaction out into the universe in some way. I even love the “hated it” reviews because at least someone out there took the time to leave feedback, you know?

But sometimes there’s a review that I just can’t even deal with because it just really captures what I felt about the novel myself. So when The Novel Approach Reviews posted this review today, I might have legit cried a little, and then printed out the review to roll around and cry in.

Thank you for this beautiful review, Lisa. It made my entire week! <3

ETA: Me. Rolling and crying.

Enjoyed this review from The Blogger Girls! 😀 4 Stars. “I was so thrilled when the opportunity presented itself for both of them to get what they wanted. Thanks, Stephen King. Sometimes you have to write into the fear. What comes out will be a piece of your heart and soul that maybe nobody wanted or needed, but it’s out there all the same. And that’s brave and hard and worth it.

May 25, 2015 by Leta
